The aim of this program is to make it possible for geological knowledge to be applied to the adequate utilization of mineral and water resources in Brazil, in benefit of the society Its compromise, inareas of the country with a severe a serious social and economic imbalance associated with untidy land occupation ishave become the subject of joint projects and studies in the physical environment. taking in account environmental prescriptions, to insure, sustainable development measures, which include infrastructure provision, improved basic living conditions and job and income generation.

Economic and Ecological Zoning

Consists of a planning resource which produces indicators concerning both the positive potential and the fragility of the physical, biotic and socioeconomic environments, and providing them decision takers at different government levels. The overall aim is to help achieve the sustainable and, harmonious development of Brazilian territory.

Mining and the Environment

This is an instrument designed to organize mining activities by designing mining master plans that take into consideration analyses of the social, economic and environmental issues encountered, as well as studies to assure the sustainability of the mining enterprises.

Geographic Information System

The purpose of this area is to set up a Geographic Information System capable of storing and processing the data on the physical environment generated in projects carried out by the Geological Survey of Brazil (GSB/CPRM) designed to help support decision making and land management.

Geo/ecotourism

This area seeks to stimulate conservation friendly ecotourism in areas with natural resources of recognized potential. by carrying out systematic surveys to identify opportunities for geoscience tourism, and drawing up geo/ecotourism itineraries that are identified by descriptions of their geological monuments, geological parks, outcrops, waterfalls, caves, fossil sites, deactivated mines (mining assets), thermal springs, landscape and trails, to be divulged by descriptive plates containing pertinent information, virtual excursions online, databases, etc. Its intention is to make available to, planning entities and to a technical and scientific resource able to point out and diagnose the areas most susceptible to impacts caused by human actions and environmental risks. It can therefore help ensure that planning activities take into account the sustainability of the measures envisaged.
